A monologue is a long speech performed by one actor. Typically this speech is addressed to another actor on stage or also to the audience. Monologues can be found in plays as well as filmed productions. Some famous monologues

Monologues are especially useful when auditioning for a play, a tv show or a film production. They can quickly assess an actors range, abilities and stage presence.
